Finlay Brothers Builders acquired by the next generation
Tullamore based Finlay Brothers, the midlands leading specialist builders of one-off houses has been acquired by the second generation of the Finlay family from the founding brothers Tom, Kevin, Paul, Paddy and the late JJ. The consideration was not disclosed but is believed to represent full market value for the business.
Two of the acquirers, Ger and Kevin Finlay work full time on the board of directors, also two of the original brothers will continue to work with the business for a transition phase.
The business which was founded in 1962, offers a design, planning application management and build service to families seeking to build houses on their own sites. Building approximately 90 one-off houses per annum, mainly in the Midlands, Finlayhomes will shortly complete their 2000th house and has built houses in 23 of the 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland.
Ger Finlay stated that the new owners are very proud of the reputation built up by the company over the past 45 years. We hope to continue delivering best quality homes to our customers embracing the latest building technologies as our parents have done for over 45 years.
The transaction was managed by Paul Cantwell of Athlone based Cantwell Corporate Finance Limited. Paul Cantwell stated
it is extremely rare to see all members of one family acquiring the business from the previous generation however by preparing for the transition in advance, the Finlays are well positioned to grow the business in a challenging climate.
